Recognition and Awards

I recently won several awards at a Global Sales Conference and was recognized in front of my peers for top performance. I am telling you this not because I need any more recognition but because it hit me - I really liked it, my ego actually loved it. I am sure some of you are saying...well duh - but I find society yells "drive towards that carrot...but when you get there shy away from the celebration of actually getting it."

My ah-ha moment was not this feels nice but recognizing my innate desire to be overly humble and give recognition to everyone except me...but WHY? I did deserve to stand there and I did deserve to enjoy it. So guess what... that is exactly what happened.

Really enjoying that moment and recognizing the moments of recognition that others around me also received provided a huge burst of drive for this upcoming year. It reaffirmed to me why I work here, who my team is and that hard work is worthy of being celebrated. So often we don't give ourselves or those around us the high fives we and they deserve.

What I also realized was how important these types of moments are, how vital it is to recognize jobs well done, perseverance met, and goals attained. Not all companies seem to get this, does yours?

Now I'm not saying we all need to walk across some big stage, medal in hand but we might need a little shout out now and then in front of those we value. Big company, small company - it can happen in a multitude of ways.

So really what I wanted to say is here's a high five to you for making sh*t happen today. Smile when I give it to you and say yeah I deserve this, maybe dare I say put humble in the corner for an hour or two.
